Come in for a portrait session and join us in giving back to American Soldiers!

In honor of all the soldiers past, present and future who sacrifice so much and make it possible for the rest of us to BBQ, relax by the pool and watch our annual fireworks shows; we're running a portrait special for the rest of the month, starting today July 4th, 2009.

In addition to the savings that you will receive, J. Andrew Photography will donate $10 from every portrait session booked in the next thirty days to the Veterans of Foreign War. This organization provides counseling and financial help to veterans and their families through a Military Assistance program.  It also helps soldiers overseas communicate with their families back home via their international calling card program.

For more information on the Veterans of Foreign War visit www.vfw.org.

Sometimes roadkill isn't really dead!

This past weekend, Joslynn and I went to a friends graduation from Cal Poly in SLO.  We even left town Sunday evening early enough to beat the Sunset most of the way back to Bakersfield.  Anyone that knows us, would be suprised that we didn't stay on the coast until well past dark, which means that we normally don't get to see any of the wildlife or scenery on the way home.  So anyway, we are taking our time driving along Highway 58 from Santa Margarita to Bakersfield, which is totally a rural road with nothing but nature for the better part of eighty miles.  Anyone who has traveled rural roads knows that you will see plenty of roadkill, so when we saw the dead looking snake in the middle of the road, we thought nothing of it.  All of a sudden as we get closer, the snake moves, and as we are driving by, I realized that it was none other than a Diamondback Rattlesnake.  Me being the total biology nerd that I am, got super excited so we turned around for another look.  My camera was in the back of the Jeep which required me to get out to get it, so of course we had to pass the snake again to keep a safe distance.  Once I got my camera out, we circled one last time and pulled up right next to it.  The only other time I have been this close to one was as a teenager in the country and I almost stepped on it!  So check out the images we got, usually you don't get to shoot an awesome creature like this without some sort of glass or wire mesh in the way.

Couples Shoot in the River

I went with this really fun couple to the Kern River and we had a blast. The shoot lasted for several hours last Sunday morning and we all went home tired, soaking wet, and totally excited to see the images!

Jonah and Christina's Engagement Session

Jonah and Christina showed me some new places to shoot on Old Highway 33, the back road from 166 to Ojai. Then after lunch we spent the afternoon enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery in Shell Beach, Avila, and eventually the foothill's of San Luis Obispo, where we explored some apple farms. We had such a blast that day, i felt like a kid again just exploring and finding great new places to shoot!
